Figurative Interiors & Landscapes

This is a collection of figurative domestic scenes. I wanted to capture a cozy feeling of home and safety. Once they were finished, I realized that all the paintings included books, trees, or both! Which was quite accidental. I think I subconsciously relate feelings of home to my grandmother’s house that we went to every summer of my childhood, where I would read books and walk in the forest behind her home.

Swan Collection

I began painting swans after my trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, and being inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling. I love the inherent transformation story of becoming who you already are.

Graphic Oil Paintings

I went through a discovery process of creating what I call, graphic oil paintings after graduating from UCSD. These paintings combine playful shapes found in modern art with the layers and depth of classic fine art. My goal was to find the overlap between whimsical airiness and graphic boldness in order to tell a narrative. Many of the paintings include text and highly stylized brushwork. As a young adult trying to contextualize what I believe and why I believe it, you will see that many of the paintings explore the theme of faith. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed creating them!
